There is so much detail within a flower, and there is so much love in the pursuit of its growth.

The tiniest seeds will sprout, survive and flourish. With the care of man they can become art.

The journey at Three Valleys began in 2018 on a small trial basis with Proteas. Today, the farm is home to nearly 40,000 trees across 26 varieties of South Africa’s beloved national flower

It is daybreak at Three Valleys farm, and the process of harvesting our Proteas has begun.

On the route to Block A, the scale of the operation becomes clear — more than 40,000 trees stretching across the scenic fields. After a quick drive through and a stop at the disinfection station, the team is ready to begin the day’s work.

Each of our flowers is planted by hand and receives daily care in the form of water, thoughtful trimmings, and attentive companionship. Before the final harvest, every flower is carefully inspected to ensure it is ready for market.

When a Protea is about to bloom, the top of the flower softens while the middle swells — nature’s own signal that it is ready to greet the world.

When separating a flower from the bush, we always leave 4–6 leaves at the bottom of the stem. This allows the plant’s natural cycle to continue, blessing us with new growth for the next harvest. What we receive, we should always try to give back again.
The fields hold many other beautiful surprises too — the constant buzzing of bees and the dazzling display of wildflowers that grow alongside our Proteas.

Once we have gathered enough blooms, the flowers are placed in buckets and transported to the safety of the coldroom in the Protea shed. Here they are sorted and stored until they find their new homes. It is our hope that they will bring joy to all who see them.
