Visiting Three Valleys

How long is a game drive?

Our game drives typically last between 2 and 3 hours, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and learn about our incredible animals.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing comfortable, casual clothing and closed shoes. On cooler days, bring a warm jacket, and in summer don’t forget a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.

Can young children join the game drives?

Yes! Children are welcome but must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

Can I bring an elderly family member?

Absolutely! We have a ramp to make boarding our game-viewing vehicle easier for guests with limited mobility. Unfortunately, our facilities are not fully wheelchair accessible at this time.

Are pets allowed?

No. For the safety of our animals, your pets and our guests, pets are not permitted on the property.

Can I bring my own picnic?

No. However, you can add one of our picnic options to your booking and enjoy a relaxing meal during your visit.

Can I do a self-drive?

No. All visits are guided, and guests are transported in our game-viewing vehicles. This ensures your safety, the welfare of our animals and the best possible experience.

How do I get there?

Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll send you a Google Maps pin along with directions from both Port Alfred and Makhanda.

Are the game-viewing vehicles open?

No. Our game-viewing vehicles have roofs to provide shade and protection from the weather while still offering excellent views of the wildlife.

What happens if it rains?

If weather conditions make it unsafe or unsuitable to conduct a game drive, we’ll gladly help you reschedule your booking.

Can I pay by card?

Yes! We have card facilities available and also accept cash.

Can I buy proteas while I’m there?

Absolutely! We have beautiful fresh proteas available for purchase during your visit, subject to availability.

Do you cater for school groups?

Yes! We welcome school groups and offer discounted rates. Please contact us to discuss your group’s requirements and receive a customised quote.

Can I take photographs?

Of course! We encourage guests to capture their experience. Just remember to be respectful of the animals and follow your guide’s instructions.

Will I definitely see the big cats?

While sightings are very likely, they can never be guaranteed. Our animals are never enticed or forced to come closer for visitors. We allow them to behave naturally, which is an important part of maintaining their welfare.

Sanctuary FAQs

Are the animals rescued?

Yes. Every animal at Three Valleys has its own unique story and has come to us needing a safe, permanent home.

Can I touch or feed the animals?

No. For the safety of both our animals and our guests, direct contact and feeding are not permitted.

How does my visit help the sanctuary?

Every visit directly supports the care of our animals. Your contribution helps provide food, veterinary care, medication, enrichment, habitat maintenance and the day-to-day running of the sanctuary.

What is the difference between a sanctuary and a zoo?

Our primary purpose is to provide lifelong care for animals that cannot be released into the wild. Unlike a traditional zoo, we do not breed animals for display or encourage unnecessary interaction with them. Their welfare always comes first, and every decision is made with their best interests in mind.

Can I volunteer or donate?

Yes! We greatly appreciate both volunteers and donations. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Michael to discuss available opportunities. Donations of any size help us continue providing exceptional care for our animals.
